Mexican military deploys forces to Guerrero for disaster relief
The Mexican Army, Air Force, and National Guard have deployed 15,727 personnel to Guerrero to manage natural disaster prevention, relief, and recovery efforts. Utilizing the Plan DN-III-E, security forces are coordinating with state and municipal authorities to provide search and rescue, evacuate residents from high-risk areas, establish over 620 temporary shelters, and distribute food and medical care.
In the Sierra region, specifically within the General Heliodoro Castillo municipality, residents from 66 communities have appealed to military detachments for assistance. Following damage caused by Hurricane Simon, local leaders requested that the military prioritize repairing destroyed roads, such as the Atoyac, El Paraíso-Puerto Gallo route, rather than focusing on the destruction of poppy plantations. Residents noted that the lack of infrastructure has left many communities isolated, hindering their ability to transport basic goods.
