Mexican missing‑persons mothers denounce government repression

Mothers of disappeared persons in Puebla protested a police crackdown during a peaceful demonstration, accusing state security secretary Francisco Sánchez of minimizing the violence and Governor Alejandro Armenta of failing to provide space to publicise missing‑person bulletins. They demanded absolute respect for their rights and better attention to investigations.

At the federal level, the same groups criticised President Claudia Sheinbaum and interior secretary Rosa Icela Rodríguez for remarks that they said revictimise their cause. Coordinators such as Yadira González pointed out that, with thousands of officials deployed, there should be no excuse for the more than 130,000 unresolved disappearances. The activists stressed that their protests are driven by grief over absent loved ones, not partisan politics, and called for effective field searches and dialogue.
