Costa Rican businesses urge approval of electrical market harmonization bill
Business organizations in Costa Rica are urging the Legislative Assembly to expedite the approval of Bill 23.414, which aims to harmonize the national electrical system. The Costa Rican Chamber of Construction (CCC) and the Association of Free Zone Companies of Costa Rica (AZOFRAS) argue that the reform is essential for strengthening energy security, reducing electricity costs, and maintaining international competitiveness.
AZOFRAS noted that high energy costs and currency appreciation are pressuring operations, impacting investment and employment decisions. The proposed law seeks to modernize the energy market through clearer rules and long-term planning to support high-tech industries and manufacturing.
