Mexican municipalities aid young mothers and recover millions in alimony payments

In Los Cabos, the municipal government handed out economic support to 20 young mothers through the “Apoyo a Madre Joven” program. The assistance, delivered by acting municipal president José Manuel Larumbe Pineda and the Institute of Youth (INJUVE), aims to help the women launch productive projects and achieve greater financial autonomy.

In the municipality of Chihuahua, the legal department of the Institute of Municipal Women (IMM) has recovered more than 11 million pesos in unpaid alimony since 2021. Free legal assistance has helped hundreds of women, children and adolescents secure overdue support, strengthening family incomes and enforcing court obligations.

Both initiatives illustrate local authorities in Mexico using targeted social‑policy tools to improve household welfare and enforce family‑law rights.
