Mexican Municipalities Boost Civil Protection Ahead of Rain Season

In Tlahuelilpan, Hidalgo, Mayor Norma Leticia Reyes led the municipal civil protection council, unveiling a municipal risk atlas and presenting a special plan for the 2026 rain and cyclone season. The session included the delivery of new equipment, such as a Ford Ranger vehicle, uniforms, tactical gear and technological tools, and marked the start of construction to expand the civil protection facilities.

In Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mayor Yensunni Martínez reported that civil protection brigades are continuously cleaning and maintaining the town’s storm‑water system. Work includes desilting drainage wells, clearing sewers, grates, channels and other infrastructure to ensure water flow and prevent flooding, with a call for residents to keep streets clean and avoid littering that could block drains.
