Mexican municipalities deploy new police equipment and AI surveillance
Mexican authorities in Zacatecas and Jalisco have announced significant investments in municipal police equipment to bolster public safety.
In Zacatecas, Governor David Monreal Ávila led the delivery of tactical and technological equipment to the Fresnillo Municipal Police. The joint state-municipal investment exceeds 101 million pesos. The new resources include a military-grade armored vehicle, an anti-drone rifle, and a mobile surveillance tower equipped with artificial intelligence for facial and license plate recognition. Monreal noted that homicide rates in Fresnillo have dropped significantly, from 653 cases in 2021 to 11 in early 2026.
In Puerto Vallarta, Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía González delivered five new RAM-type patrol vehicles and uniforms to the Municipal Police. These units, funded through FORTAMUN, aim to increase surveillance in urban sectors and tourist areas. This delivery brings the total number of vehicles provided by the current administration to 40.
