Mexican municipalities expand access to mental health and nutrition services
Local governments in Mexico are expanding access to mental and physical health services through specialized programs.
In Hidalgo, the Instituto Hidalguense de la Juventud (Inhjuve) is providing free psychological and nutritional counseling for individuals aged 12 to 29. The program offers both in-person and virtual consultations to ensure accessibility for youth in remote municipalities. Ricardo Olvera Molina, head of the organization, stated that the initiative aims to address the physical and emotional well-being of young people through professional and confidential guidance.
In Chihuahua, the Municipal Government, via the Instituto Municipal de Prevención y Atención a la Salud (IMPAS), offers individual, family, and couple psychological consultations at a minimal recovery fee. To assist those with limited financial means, socioeconomic studies can be conducted to potentially reduce these costs. IMPAS also provides support groups for men, women, and positive parenting, alongside a 24/7 crisis hotline known as ‘Hablar Salva Vidas’.
