Mexican municipalities expand community aid programs

In San Luis de la Paz, Guanajuato, the municipal government and the local DIF system organized a free collective civil marriage ceremony, allowing 44 couples to marry at no cost. The event also included a mobile civil registry that issued birth, marriage and death certificates free of charge.

In Culiacán, Sinaloa, the city’s Directorate of Storm Drain Systems carried out a large‑scale cleaning and desazolve operation on multiple arroyos and drainage channels across the municipality. The work aimed to improve water flow and reduce flood risk during the rainy season, and officials urged residents to keep the channels clear of waste.

Separately, the Sinaloa DIF conducted a door‑to‑door distribution of food assistance to 80 vulnerable families in the Alturas del Sur neighborhood as part of the Jornadas de la Paz. The program also provided psychological support, delivering 51 specialized emotional‑health interventions, including psychometric testing and referrals for further care.
