Mexican municipalities hold civic ceremonies to honor national history

Municipal authorities in Ciudad Juárez and Irapuato held civic ceremonies to mark the beginning of October, focusing on Mexican historical memory and national identity.

In Ciudad Juárez, Mayor Héctor Rafael Ortiz Orpinel led a flag-raising ceremony at the megabandera. During his address, he emphasized the importance of teaching children respect for national symbols and historical awareness. He specifically referenced the events of October 2, 1968, in Tlatelolco, stating that collective memory helps ensure that past government errors are not repeated and helps foster human rights and freedoms.

In Irapuato, Mayor Lorena Alfaro García participated in a similar ceremony involving the Mexican Army, local security academy cadets, and students. The event highlighted significant historical dates, such as the promulgation of the 1824 Federal Constitution and the Day of the Pluricultural Nation. Local officials emphasized the role of education and teachers in fostering civic values and national pride among the youth.
