Mexican municipalities host Independence Day races

Various regions in Mexico are organizing athletic events to celebrate Independence Day.

In Ahome, Sinaloa, the Municipal Sports Institute (IMDA) is hosting the 64th edition of the Independence Race on Sunday, September 13. The event features a prize pool of nearly 70,000 pesos and includes free categories for children. This year's race honors Arturo Contreras, a visually impaired marathon runner. Participants are expected to arrive from various municipalities in Sinaloa and Sonora, with past editions having hosted Kenyan athletes.

In Cuernavaca, Morelos, the State Institute of Sport and Physical Culture (Indem) will hold the free hybrid race ‘Noche Mexicana, Corre y Grita Viva México’ on Monday, September 14. Held at the Centenario Sports Unit, the event combines 800-meter blocks with functional stations, live music, and a western theme. The competition includes various categories for participants over 16, as well as recreational options for children and adolescents.
