Mexican municipalities launch new programs to protect women and girls

The municipalities of Tizimín, Valladolid and Chemax have been selected for the second national call of the Fondo para el Bienestar y el Avance de las Mujeres 2026. Each will receive funding and specialized staff – two women brigadistas and one promoter – to run the "Niñas y Adolescentes Libres y Seguras" strategy, delivering workshops on sexual and reproductive rights, detecting and channeling cases of sexual violence, teenage pregnancy, forced unions and early cohabitation, and strengthening local reporting pathways. The initiative is overseen by the Secretariat of Women (Semujeres) and its head, Sisely Burgos Cano.

In Múzquiz, Coahuila, municipal mayor Laura Patricia Jiménez Gutiérrez has introduced the “Toca Toca” campaign. Police units of the Mando Único Coordinado circulate the community distributing informational pamphlets, emergency numbers and guidance on services for victims, while also creating WhatsApp groups to maintain direct communication with residents. The program aims to prevent gender‑based and family violence, encourage timely reporting and improve coordination with specialized victim‑support agencies.
