Mexican municipalities launch new scholarship programs for university students

Manzanillo mayor Rosa María Bayardo Cabrera inaugurated the UniBeca program, distributing electronic cards to more than 800 public‑university students at the University of Colima’s El Naranjo campus. Each recipient will receive a 9,000‑peso stipend, making Manzanillo the only municipality in the country to fund all local public‑university students.

In Zapotlán el Grande, mayor Magali Casillas Contreras delivered the first phase of the “Futuro Brillante 2026” initiative, awarding 5,000 pesos to 78 high‑performing undergraduate students. The amount is paid in two installments of 2,500 pesos each, recognizing academic excellence with averages between 94 and 100 points.

Both programs aim to support youth education, improve school retention, and promote community development through direct financial assistance.
