Mexican municipalities launch programs for women's economic empowerment

Municipal governments in Mexico are launching initiatives to promote economic autonomy for women through specialized training and business support.

In Tlalnepantla, Mayor Raciel Pérez Cruz introduced the “Capacitación para incentivar el empleo y autoempleo en mujeres” program. The initiative provides 426 women with free technical training in fields such as professional makeup, nail application, and holistic massage. Participants receive full fee exemptions, complete coursework, and a kit of tools and materials to begin productive activities. The program is conducted in collaboration with Cecati 65 and supported by the Coparmex women entrepreneurs commission. Additionally, the municipality announced the second generation of the “Mujeres al Volante” mobility strategy.

In Monterrey, the government presented the “Academia de Mujeres Emprendedoras 2.0.” Driven by the Secretariat of Economic Development and the Municipal Institute of Women Regias (IMMR), the program aims to help women transition their ventures into formal businesses. Participants will receive guidance on invoicing, brand registration, formalization, and nutritional labeling requirements. The initiative also links entrepreneurs with the Monterrey Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (CIEM) to foster professional growth and support networks.
