Mexican Navy rescues fishermen and Cuban migrants at sea
The Mexican Navy has completed two major maritime rescue operations involving stranded individuals at sea.
In the Pacific Ocean, two fishermen, aged 53 and 32, were rescued approximately 240 kilometers off the coast of Chiapas. After their vessel, the 'Camaronera', sank during a storm on August 14, the men survived for five days by clinging to a blue insulated cooler. They were located by a naval search-and-rescue operation involving aircraft and surface vessels. Both men were treated for dehydration and are in stable condition.
In a separate operation in the Gulf of Mexico, authorities located a vessel carrying Cuban migrants near the Yucatán Peninsula. The boat, which had departed from Pinar del Río on August 11, was found near Chicxulub Puerto. The group, which included approximately 16 to 19 people including several minors, was assisted by the crew of the 'Tigres del Mayab 3' before being taken into naval custody. The migrants were reported to be in stable condition and were transferred to the Ninth Naval Zone for processing.
