Mexico commemorates 60 years of Plan DN-III-E disaster relief
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum led a ceremony at the Santa Lucía Military Air Base to mark the 60th anniversary of Plan DN-III-E, a military disaster relief program established in 1966. Defense Secretary Ricardo Trevilla Trejo reported that the plan has been deployed 87,000 times both within Mexico and abroad.
According to Trevilla Trejo, the program has provided assistance to 30 different countries across 99 occasions, including support during the COVID-19 pandemic and aid to the United States and Venezuela. The ceremony included the unveiling of a commemorative plaque and the recognition of 50 members of the Armed Forces.
In Guanajuato, the state government joined the commemorations by illuminating the Government Palace in yellow as a symbol of gratitude for the military's role in responding to floods, hurricanes, and earthquakes. Federal officials, including Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch, praised the plan for providing essential medical care, food distribution, and community recovery services during national emergencies.
