Mexican officials denounce political propaganda on public infrastructure

Public officials and citizens in various Mexican municipalities are raising concerns regarding the proliferation of political propaganda on public infrastructure.

In Guasave, Sinaloa, PAN councilman Fernando Cárdenas has denounced a “plague of political propaganda” occupying municipal property. He reported that images, logos, and names of political figures and potential candidates are being displayed on streetlights, pedestrian bridges, traffic lights, and public walls. Cárdenas urged the City Council to remove these materials, arguing that such displays constitute an irregular occupation of public goods and cause visual pollution.

Similarly, in the state of Puebla, residents in Amozoc have criticized the use of public walls for the political promotion of officials, specifically citing the image of secretary Miryam Aquino Mena. Critics are calling for a return to “white walls” to prioritize social results over political self-promotion.
