Mexican officials face corruption accusations over public resource misuse

State deputies from the PAN and PRI filed criminal complaints against Nuevo León Governor Samuel García and his wife Mariana Rodríguez, alleging the use of state assets for electoral purposes during a Morocco‑Netherlands soccer match. The accusations cite distribution of orange T‑shirts, deployment of a Black Hawk helicopter assigned to civil‑safety duties, and mobilising public employees and contractors, potentially constituting embezzlement, abuse of authority and other offenses. The complaints were submitted to the state anti‑corruption prosecutor and auditor.

In Ciudad Juárez, PAN announced it will lodge a complaint with the municipal comptroller over sixteen local public employees who allegedly travelled to Mexico City to attend a Morena internal registration event, misusing public funds and taking paid leave. The party presented names and salaries of the officials, while acting mayor Héctor Ortiz Orpinel dismissed the accusations as “a vacilada más de los voceros de la mentira.”
