Mexican Olympic Committee secures private funding for Dakar 2026

The Mexican Olympic Committee (COM) has presented its 62-athlete delegation for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal. Due to a lack of authorized federal funding from CONADE, the COM had to reduce its operational budget from 16 million pesos to 13.8 million pesos.

This budget cut resulted in a reduced multidisciplinary team, specifically affecting the number of doctors and physiotherapists available to support the athletes. To cover the costs of travel, lodging, food, and uniforms, private sponsors are providing 70 percent of the necessary funds, while the COM is covering the remaining 30 percent.

The COM also addressed discrepancies regarding previous funding, clarifying that the 60 million pesos allocated by CONADE for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games were fully utilized and are independent of the funds requested for the Dakar games. The committee noted that while they initially requested 5 million pesos for 32 athletes, the request was updated to 11 million pesos following the increase in qualified athletes to 62.
