Mexican orchestras launch new concert seasons

Major Mexican orchestras are launching new concert seasons featuring both historical and contemporary works. The Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México (OSEM) is beginning its 155th season, which coincides with the 55th anniversary of the ensemble founded by Enrique Bátiz Campbell in 1971. Director Rodrigo Macías announced that the orchestra will perform in various municipalities, including Xonacatlán, Texcoco, and Tecámac, to increase cultural reach. Additionally, the Coro Polifónico del Estado de México is resuming activities with a new 30-voice ensemble.

Meanwhile, the Orquesta Filarmónica de la Ciudad de México (OFCM) is dedicating the latter part of its 2026 season to Mexican composers. The program features works by legendary figures such as Blas Galindo, Juventino Rosas, José Pablo Moncayo, and Arturo Márquez, alongside contemporary pieces by Gabriela Ortiz, Ana Lara, and María Granillo. Operating director Edgar García Véjar noted the orchestra's commitment to integrating established legends with modern composers to showcase the country's musical diversity.
