Mexican organizations demand gender parity in political power

Civil society organizations in Mexico are demanding the full implementation of gender parity across all levels of government and political representation bodies. They assert that parity is a constitutional mandate and a fundamental right rather than a granted concession.

While acknowledging progress in political rights, these organizations warned that numerical equality does not eliminate existing inequalities in public life. They called for an end to practices that obstruct women's access to elective offices and decision-making positions. Advocates emphasized that female presence must be supported by conditions that allow for the full exercise of responsibilities without violence, discrimination, or gender-based obstacles, noting that parity strengthens democracy by making institutions more reflective of the population.
