Mexican pensioners protest against pension cuts and unpaid benefits

Pensioners from various Mexican state institutions, including the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and Pemex, have launched protests against reductions in their retirement income. Demonstrators gathered in Mexico City in front of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) to demand that the government cease pension cuts following recent reforms to Article 127 of the Constitution. These protests have spread across the country, with reports of demonstrations from Baja California to Yucatán.

In Monterrey, approximately 300 retired teachers from the SNTE Section 50 also held a demonstration in front of ISSSTE facilities. They are demanding an increase in their annual retiree bonus from 3,000 to 4,000 pesos, as well as fixed payment dates and tax-free status for the benefit. The group claims that outstanding debts owed to retirees have exceeded 1,000 million pesos and criticized the government for a lack of empathy regarding unpaid benefits.
