Mexican political parties offer legal aid against mobile phone registration

Political parties in Mexico, including Acción Nacional (PAN) and Movimiento Ciudadano, are assisting citizens in filing legal injunctions, known as amparos, against federal requirements to link mobile phone lines with the CURP (Unique Population Registry Code).

PAN is providing a citizen's guide via QR codes to help individuals file indirect injunctions against what they term “spy laws.” This follows previous efforts by Movimiento Ciudadano to organize collective injunctions against the mandatory registration of mobile users.

The Federal Judiciary has already received collective injunctions regarding the requirement to provide biometric data and link phone lines to CURP. The registration deadline follows a biweekly schedule based on the final digit of the user's identification, concluding on December 31. Users with postpaid or rental plans are exempt from this specific measure as their lines were registered at the time of contract signing.
