Mexican prosecutors secure prison sentences for extortion and kidnapping

Authorities in Mexico have obtained significant prison sentences in two separate high-impact criminal cases.

In Morelos, Gared Emmanuel “N” was sentenced to 22 years and six months in prison for aggravated extortion. The defendant admitted to his role in threatening and intimidating a victim in Tlayacapan during May and June 2024, demanding money in exchange for the safety of the individual and their business. The sentence follows an investigation by the Fiscalía General del Estado de Morelos.

In Oaxaca, two men, Guillermo R. S. J. and Juan H., received a combined sentence of 157 years and six months for aggravated kidnapping. The case dates back to January 2011, when armed men abducted a victim from a business in San Antonio de la Cal and demanded two million pesos from the victim's wife. Following their discovery by state police, the captors killed the victim. The court sentenced Guillermo R. S. J. to 87 years and six months and Juan H. to 70 years in prison.
