Mexican Red Cross issues alerts on hiking risks and road safety

The Mexican Red Cross has issued warnings regarding different emergency trends across various regions in Mexico.

In Morelos, the institution alerted the public to unregulated hiking and mountaineering groups operating on social media. These groups often lack necessary certifications and experience. Mauricio Díaz Salgado, the institution's relief coordinator, advised citizens to verify that guides are authorized to avoid risks, noting that the Morelos delegation handles between 10 and 12 rescues annually involving lost or injured individuals in mountainous areas due to unregulated services.

In Matamoros, Tamaulipas, coordinator Francisco Ponce Lara reported a decrease in emergency calls, particularly regarding traffic accidents. The decline in incidents involving intoxicated drivers was attributed to ongoing sobriety checkpoints. Despite this improvement, emergency units continue to respond to various medical complications, falls, and frequent accidents involving motorcyclists.
