Mexican regional governments launch youth-focused crime prevention initiatives

Local governments in Mexico are implementing community-based initiatives aimed at crime prevention and the reconstruction of social fabric through youth engagement.

In Cuautlancingo, Puebla, authorities held a ‘Peace Day’ at the Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez General Baccalaureate. The event involved various security agencies, including the National Guard, SEDENA, and the Puebla State Firefighters, to promote a culture of respect, inclusion, and coexistence among students. Officials emphasized the importance of providing young people with tools to build positive life projects and strengthening community values.

In Tamaulipas, the state government conducted the third ‘Proximity that Builds Peace’ session at a secondary school in Ciudad Victoria. The initiative focuses on bringing government institutions closer to citizens to foster dialogue and trust. The state's security strategy rests on four pillars: intelligence, strengthening security forces, coordination, and addressing root causes to prevent risk situations and rebuild community ties.
