Mexican regional governments launch youth welfare and scholarship programs
Local and state governments in Mexico are implementing financial support programs aimed at enhancing educational and athletic opportunities for young people.
In San Pedro Cholula, Mayor Tonantzin Fernández oversaw the distribution of the Quetzalcóatl and Xelhua scholarships. These programs provide quarterly economic support of 1,800 pesos to 500 university students and 60 athletes to assist with expenses such as equipment, materials, and transportation.
In Oaxaca, Governor Salomón Jara Cruz announced the distribution of over 2,000 'Tarjeta Joven' cards, representing an investment of 15 million pesos. The program is designed to help students cover costs related to books, cultural activities, sports, and recreation. The Governor expressed intent to elevate the program to constitutional status to ensure its permanence beyond the current administration.
