Mexican regions launch social aid benefiting over 51,000 families
In the state of Hidalgo, Governor Julio Menchaca's administration began delivering 2026 social programs with an investment of more than 519 million pesos. The four schemes – Bienestar y Desarrollo, Bienestar de Madres Trabajadoras, artisan support, and assistance for deported and repatriated migrants – will reach 51,875 people, prioritising municipalities hit by the monsoonal vaguada. Secretary of Welfare Ricardo Gómez Moreno said each support "represents an opportunity to improve the quality of life of Hidalgo families."
In Matamoros, Tamaulipas, the municipal government and the local DIF organized the itinerant "Mercadito a Bajo Costo" outreach, offering basic goods at low prices and free medical, dental and legal services to more than 250 families in the Mundo Nuevo sector. DIF president Ana Ariceaga de Granados highlighted that the effort "consolidates an administration of territory and not of a desk," while mayor Beto Granados attended the event.
