Mexican restaurant group Canirac urges licensing compliance for World Cup 2026 broadcasts
The National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (CANIRAC) has warned eateries, bars and cafés across Mexico to verify that they hold the appropriate commercial broadcast licences before showing any FIFA World Cup 2026 matches. Claudia Ramírez del Palacio, executive president of CANIRAC, said businesses must use legally authorised signals and that the Instituto Mexicano de la Propiedad Industrial (IMPI) will inspect premises for compliance, with fines ranging from one to five thousand minimum‑wage days for infringements.
CANIRAC also offered direct assistance: restaurants can contact the organisation (or its Chihuahua branch) for guidance on rights, intellectual‑property obligations and the distinction between ordinary in‑house viewing and public events that charge admission or feature commercial activations. FIFA provides a specific platform for obtaining public‑projection licences when required.
