Mexican retailers Walmart, Chedraui, and La Comer report slower sales growth

Major Mexican supermarket chains, including Walmart de México, Chedraui, and La Comer, reported a slowdown in sales growth during the second quarter of 2026. While these retailers saw increases in comparable store sales, the pace of growth was lower than in the first quarter of the year.

Walmart de México reported a 3.1% growth in consolidated sales, down from 4.4% in the previous quarter. Chedraui saw growth of 5.1%, compared to 6.3% in the first quarter, and La Comer grew by 5.7%, down from 8.4%. In contrast, Soriana experienced a deepening decline, with sales falling 4.9% in the second quarter after a 2.4% drop in the first.

Analysts suggest the deceleration may be due to challenging consumption patterns and the impact of rainfall on customer traffic. Despite seasonal factors like Mother's Day, Father's Day, and the World Cup, the retail sector faced a cooling of consumer demand during this period.
