Isaac del Toro wins Tour de France Stage 2 as Pogacar yields and Vingegaard retains yellow
Stage 2 of the 2026 Tour de France ran 168.5 km from Tarragona to Barcelona. Mexican rider Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates‑XRG) claimed his first Tour stage victory, becoming only the second Mexican to win a stage after Raúl Alcalá in 1990. Team leader Tadej Pogacar deliberately let his teammate sprint for the win, a move he described as “a decision to give the victory to Isaac”. Del Toro recovered from a mechanical problem and a brief delay caused by the team car, still managing to overtake his rivals on the final ascent of Montjuïc. Jonas Vingegaard (Visma‑Lease a Bike) held the overall lead, defending the yellow jersey with a six‑second advantage over Pogacar. Remco Evenepoel finished third. The UAE Emirates‑XRG squad secured a 1‑2 finish, with Pogacar finishing second and the team dominating the day's climbs.
