Mexican search collectives demand more institutional support

Search collectives in Mexico are intensifying their efforts and demands for institutional support regarding missing persons. In Tijuana, Baja California, mothers searching for their missing loved ones closed the offices of the Local Search Commission. They are demanding greater participation from the State Attorney General's Office, the creation of a specialized investigative unit for disappearance cases, and better field equipment and personnel.

The protesters also called for the closure and protection of a local landfill where human remains were recently discovered, citing concerns that waste disposal could interfere with search efforts. Following a meeting with the head of the Local Search Commission and human rights representatives, a working group was established to address these demands.

In Teuchitlán, Jalisco, activist Ceci Flores led search operations in difficult terrain following reports of potential locations of missing persons. The search was conducted alongside the National Search Commission, the National Guard, and Jalisco state security. These efforts follow previous discoveries in the region, including indications of clandestine cremations and large quantities of clothing linked to organized crime activity.
