Mexican Senate advances salary transparency reform

The Social Work Commission of the Mexican Senate has approved a draft report aimed at strengthening salary transparency and modifying the Federal Labor Law. The proposal requires employers to include specific salary ranges in all job postings and vacancies, regardless of the medium used to advertise them.

Key provisions of the reform include guaranteeing workers' rights to know the criteria used to calculate their remuneration and prohibiting unjustified wage differences. Specifically, the measure forbids paying a lower salary to an individual performing the same role or tasks of equal value under equivalent conditions without an objective and reasonable justification. This is intended to combat gender gaps and discriminatory practices.

Additionally, the draft mandates that collective bargaining agreements must include salary scales for each labor category, along with the specific conditions and criteria for salary calculations. Senators argued that making salary ranges and promotion policies transparent reduces arbitrary decision-making and empowers candidates during negotiations.
