Mexico legislative bodies advance accountability and policy agendas

Legislative activities in Mexico are progressing through various stages of accountability and capacity building. In the Senate, Higinio Martínez Miranda reported the approval of 21 decree projects during the first month of the LXVI Legislature, including constitutional reforms regarding dual nationality and animal welfare laws.

At the federal level, Secretary of the Interior Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez appeared before the Political Coordination Board, led by Senator Ignacio Mier Velazco, to discuss domestic policy and the 2027 electoral process. Rodríguez emphasized respect for electoral laws and transparency.

State-level legislatures are also active. In San Luis Potosí, the Congress has scheduled hearings for ten state agencies to review the Fifth Government Report between October 19 and 21, utilizing a format limited to questions and answers without rebuttals. Additionally, legislative training sessions focused on gender and childhood perspectives were conducted in collaboration with UNICEF and UNDP. In Tamaulipas, various political groups presented their legislative agendas for the third year of the 66th Legislature, focusing on topics such as corruption, health, and security.
