Mexican Senate promotes actions to eliminate menopause stigma
The Mexican Senate has launched initiatives to combat misinformation and promote comprehensive medical care regarding menopause. Senator Lizeth Sánchez García emphasized that menopause is a natural life stage rather than a disease, calling for increased empathy, dignity, and preventive health measures to address hormonal changes.
To mark National Menopause Health Day in Mexico, the Senate facilities were illuminated in violet. Legislators highlighted that many women suffer from misunderstood symptoms—such as insomnia, fatigue, and physical and emotional changes—while maintaining professional and family responsibilities.
José Manuel Cruz Castellanos, president of the Health Commission, noted the need for a legal framework to guarantee protection for reproductive health, menstruation, and menopause. Officials noted that approximately 23.6 million women aged 40 and older have experienced climacteric symptoms, underscoring the necessity for government-guaranteed medical support.
