Mexican Senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña Defends 12‑Million‑Peso Tepoztlán House
Senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña of Mexico’s Morena party addressed criticism over a 12 million‑peso house in Tepoztlán, Morelos. He explained that the property remains only indirectly reported because it was purchased with a credit line that is still outstanding, stating, “Hay quien dice: recibes tu casa a crédito y dices ‘mi casa’, pero mientras no la pagues, no es tuya.”
In a later asset declaration filed in May 2026, Fernández Noroña reported no ownership of any real estate, but listed a personal loan of the same 12 million pesos tied to the Tepoztlán house. The declaration showed his senatorial income of 1.8 million pesos and noted other debts, including a 1 million‑peso auto loan. No amendment to the declaration has been recorded in the national transparency platform.
