Mexican Senator proposes consular assistance for civil registry corrections

Senator Karina Isabel Ruiz has proposed that the Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs establish collaboration agreements with state governments to allow consular offices to manage civil registry document corrections.

The proposal aims to transform consulates into service windows where staff can receive, guide, and manage requests for the clarification and correction of certificates through the National Civil Registry Platform. Ruiz noted that while digital infrastructure exists, there is currently no formal, binding mechanism for consulates to receive applications, certify supporting documents, collect fees, or transmit files to the appropriate registry authorities.

Additionally, the senator urged the Agency for Digital Transformation and Telecommunications to enable an assisted management mode within the platform. This would allow for the generation and validation of Llave MX accounts using passports or consular IDs, facilitating administrative procedures for Mexicans living abroad.
