Mexican soldier dies after altercation in Torreón hotel

A 22-year-old Mexican soldier, identified as Alejandro Martínez Ibarra, died following a physical altercation with fellow military personnel at a hotel in downtown Torreón, Coahuila.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, August 30, in room 505 of a hotel located near the intersection of Morelos Avenue and Ildefonso Fuentes Street. Reports indicate the dispute began when another soldier entered the room to request a cell phone charger, which escalated from a verbal argument into a physical fight.

Witnesses attempted to intervene and separate the individuals, after which Martínez Ibarra collapsed. Although paramedics arrived via the 911 emergency system, they confirmed he had no vital signs.

The State Attorney General’s Office of Coahuila has launched a formal investigation into the death. Authorities are reviewing hotel security camera footage to establish a timeline of the event, and an autopsy will be conducted by the Service of Forensic Medicine (SEMEFO) to determine the exact cause of death.
