Mexican solidarity campaign launched to provide fuel for Cuba
The Liga Cultural Antifascista has launched a solidarity campaign in Mexico titled ‘Un litro de gasolina para Cuba’ to help mitigate Cuba’s energy crisis. The initiative aims to raise funds to purchase and transport 40,000 liters of fuel to the island via a tanker vessel.
To raise the necessary resources, small graphic works by Cuban artists are being sold for 25 pesos at 37 FCE (Fondo de Cultura Económica) and Educal bookstores within the Mexico City metropolitan area. The campaign was announced during the International Book Fair of the Zócalo.
Promoters of the initiative, including Paco Ignacio Taibo II, Nora Huerta, Jairo Calixto Albarrán, and Fernando Rivera Calderón, stated that the fuel shortage—exacerbated by United States sanctions—is severely impacting vital services. They warned that the lack of fuel threatens hospital operations, the preservation of vaccines and medicines, the pumping of potable water, and the distribution of food.
