Mexican state congresses host youth parliamentary sessions
Legislative bodies in Michoacán and Nuevo León have hosted youth parliamentary sessions to encourage political engagement among young citizens.
In Michoacán, the State Congress hosted the ‘Parlamento Juvenil Revolucionario 2026’. During the event, 43 young participants presented initiatives covering topics such as job opportunities, agriculture, the environment, education, indigenous communities, security, justice, gender equality, and economic development. Legislators indicated that these proposals would be reviewed by local commissions for potential conversion into law.
In Nuevo León, the President of the State Congress, Perla Villarreal Valdez, participated in the 18th Youth Parliament. She urged young people to practice active citizenship and involve themselves in politics to strengthen democracy. Villarreal Valdez noted that political engagement extends beyond public office to schools and local communities, citing recent student-led initiatives regarding school bullying prevention as an example of impactful youth involvement.
