Mexican States Boost Student Transport Discounts and International Study Scholarships

In Jalisco, state authorities have begun implementing a five‑peso fare for university students on public transport, simplifying access with a new single‑card system and adding extra buses to high‑demand corridors. Officials also announced a GPS‑based tracking platform expected to be operational by the end of the year, aimed at improving service reliability for the large student commuting population.

After a fifteen‑year hiatus, the University of Colima has reinstated mobility scholarships, allowing students to undertake academic stays in partner countries such as Germany, Argentina, Canada, China, South Korea, Spain, the United States and many others. The program, promoted by the rector and the International Cooperation Office, emphasizes the personal and professional growth benefits of overseas study.

Both initiatives reflect a broader push by Mexican educational institutions and regional governments to lower economic barriers and expand international exposure for university students.
