Mexican states enforce school calendar rules as heat prompts remote classes and sanctions threaten early closures

In Veracruz, deputy José Reveriano Marín Hernández, president of the Permanent Education and Culture Commission, warned that schools must adhere to the official academic calendar, which ends on 17 July 2025‑2026. Parents are urged to report any school that attempts to close before that date, and teachers who do so could face sanctions, as could the schools themselves.

In Tamaulipas, seven schools in the El Mante and Tampico areas moved to remote learning because extreme heat, with a heat index reaching 47 °C, posed health risks. Education Secretary Miguel Ángel Valdez García confirmed the activation of a heat protocol that allows classes to be held online when temperatures exceed 40 °C, and said the measure will continue as the school year approaches its scheduled end on 10 July.
