Mexican states expand mental health and maternal care services

In Quintana Roo, the state government is strengthening its mental health network to provide free, specialized care to families. Through a collaboration between state health services, municipal governments, and federal agencies, the initiative utilizes UNEME CISAME units in Cancún and Chetumal, along with eight CECOSAMA community centers across various municipalities.

So far this year, the state has provided 10,919 mental health consultations. Services include psychiatry, psychology, addiction prevention, and suicide prevention. The network aims to facilitate access to diagnosis and specialized treatment through scheduled appointments at hospitals and health centers across 24 locations.

In Chiapas, health authorities are conducting specialized training to improve maternal and perinatal care. In coordination with the National Center for Gender Equity and Reproductive Health, medical personnel from various institutions are receiving technical assistance to manage obstetric emergencies, such as hemorrhages and hypertensive disorders.

Additionally, training programs focused on essential newborn care are being provided to midwives to reduce perinatal mortality. These efforts include instruction on neonatal care, such as respiratory stimulation and mask ventilation, supported by the National Confederation of Pediatrics of Mexico and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
