Mexican States Launch Campaigns to Combat Gusano Barrenador in Cattle

The municipality of Aguascalientes, together with state authorities and the regional cattle union, will hold preventive talks for small‑scale and organized cattle producers in the four rural delegations. Coordinated with the State Government and the Secretariat of Rural Development, the sessions will explain animal‑health protocols, sanitary measures and pet‑care guidance to limit the spread of the invasive gusano barrenador.

In Tamaulipas, Deputy Marcelo Abundiz urged ranchers to join the fight against the worm by conducting daily inspections, treating wounds promptly, and restricting animal movements. He highlighted the installation of sanitary fences and filters in the southern part of the state and noted limited federal aid, while emphasizing support from the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas for research and diagnostics.
