Mexican States Launch Lagoon and Forest Restoration Plans

State authorities in Guerrero, including Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda, the municipalities of Acapulco and Coyuca de Benítez, and the National Tourism Development Fund (Fonatur), agreed on an Integral Action Plan to restore the Coyuca‑Mitla lagoon system. The plan calls for a diagnostic study, rehabilitation of wastewater treatment plants, reconstruction of collapsed drainage networks, removal of invasive aquatic lilies, mangrove reforestation and continuous water‑quality monitoring.

In Tamaulipas, Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya announced a program to plant more than 15,000 trees and use drones to disperse seeds across the Sierra Madre Oriental. Coordinated with the federal government, the effort targets ecosystems damaged by recent forest fires and extreme heat. A public reforestation day will be held near the San Antonio ejido in Jaumave, where native species such as mesquite, ebony and yucca will be planted.
