Mexican states prepare security measures for 2027 elections

Mexican states Oaxaca and Morelos are implementing security and coordination measures ahead of the 2027 electoral process.

In Oaxaca, Government Secretary Jesús Romero López announced the upcoming installation of the Electoral Follow-up Operational Table (MOSE). This mechanism aims to coordinate federal, state, and electoral authorities to ensure stability and peaceful voting. The 2027 cycle will involve the renewal of local and federal legislators, as well as most municipal authorities under both internal normative systems and political parties.

In Morelos, Government Secretary Edgar Maldonado Ceballos is preparing a preventive security route. The state is coordinating with the Peace and Security Construction Table and electoral magistrates to identify priority zones. The strategy includes support from federal forces, such as the Secretariat of National Defense, the National Guard, and the Navy. Additionally, authorities have called on political parties to implement strict vetting processes for candidates to prevent individuals with criminal backgrounds from running for office.
