Mexican states roll out mental‑health support programs for suicide‑affected families and depression sufferers
The Secretaría de Salud of Guanajuato announced an assistance program for families grieving a relative’s suicide. Under the State Program for Suicide Prevention and Care, psychologists will visit households, provide first‑aid psychological support and refer families to a network of 19 Emotional Support Groups located in hospitals and community centers across 46 municipalities. The initiative aims to reduce emotional impact, strengthen support networks and identify individuals at risk of further mental‑health problems.
In San Luis Potosí, the Instituto Temazcalli, backing Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona’s mental‑health agenda, completed a "Jornada de Acompañamiento y Concientización sobre la Depresión" that reached 5,017 participants. The outreach offered information, self‑regulation tools and referral pathways to people in prison, refugees, students, teachers, parents and members of therapeutic communities, fostering early detection of depression and timely care.
