Mexican student represents nation at Stockholm water forum
Shanni Valeria Mora Fajardo, a third-semester Water Management and Science student at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur (UABCS), is representing Mexico as the sole Mexican participant in the 2026 Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) University Cohort.
Taking place in Stockholm, Sweden, during World Water Week from August 23 to 27, the program brings together students from ten countries specializing in engineering, environmental sciences, hydrology, and public health. Participants engage in mentorship, knowledge exchange, and collaborative workshops aimed at addressing global challenges in water supply, conservation, and sustainable use.
Originally from Oaxaca, Mora Fajardo previously earned a Diploma of Excellence at the 2024 international Stockholm Junior Water Prize alongside Rosa Mendoza Sosa. Their award-winning project focused on a filtration system designed to treat wastewater from artisanal wool rug dyeing to allow for safe water reuse in vegetable production.
