Mexican teachers protest, risk postponing August school start

Teachers and workers at the Centros de Bachillerato Tecnológico Agropecuario (CBTAs) in Morelos have staged an arm‑down demonstration demanding labour improvements such as promotion, reduced hours, regularisation, payment of overdue wages and the implementation of "Concepto 69". They warned that if their demands are not met, the new school cycle scheduled for August will not begin, although they will allow the current semester to finish.

In a related development, the teachers’ union representing Section 22 concluded negotiations with the state government, the Secretariat of Government, the Institute for Education of Physical Education (IEEPO) and the Office of the Mayor. Following the agreement, the union lifted its camp at the arches of the Palacio de Gobierno. The deal includes the formal receipt of 302 files for review, supervision of the leasing process beginning 3 July, and the start of renovation work on the Physical Education Directorate on 6 July. The teachers expressed confidence in the authorities but said they will monitor compliance with the timelines.
