Mexican municipalities launch water‑bill discount programs

The municipal water authorities of Irapuato, Villa Corona and Torreón announced discount schemes to regularize unpaid water bills.

Irapuato’s Junta de Agua Potable, Alcantarillado y Saneamiento (JAPAMI) will run a program in July‑August 2026 offering up to 100 % off penalties for customers who settle their debts in a single payment, with additional payment‑plan options that provide reduced fees based on the repayment term.

Villa Corona’s municipal government opened a similar initiative that also cancels up to 100 % of penalties and execution costs for both water and property‑tax arrears, and it now accepts credit‑card payments at its revenue offices.

Simas Torreón introduced a tiered discount for water‑bill arrears: 60 % off penalties for residential users and 30 % for commercial accounts, provided the accounts have not previously benefited from a similar concession. Applicants must visit any Simas office to complete the process.

All three programs aim to encourage timely payments, improve municipal revenue for water services, and prevent service interruptions for households and businesses.
