Mexican towns roll out free summer programs for children

The municipal government of San Andrés Tuxtla in Veracruz launched the free cooking competition “Pequeño Gran Chef” for children aged 5‑12. Registrations are open until 23 July, with a preliminary tasting on 24 July and a final event on 31 July. The contest aims to preserve local recipes, especially traditional tamales, and includes free summer workshops at the UNDESAT sports complex.

In San Martín Texmelucan, Puebla, the municipal administration organized a free library program called “Mis Vacaciones en la Biblioteca 2026.” Running from 20 July to 14 August at the Maestro Jorge Gámez Romero library, the workshop offers reading, creativity and collaborative activities for children, aligning with the national “Mis Vacaciones en la Biblioteca” strategy to turn public libraries into community learning spaces.
